Residential School Survivors and Descendants Scholarship
We are reopening applications effective immediately. Please submit the following
requirements to humanresources@49design.com by the updated deadline:
1. 1,000-2,000 word essay explaining:
o How you are related to Residential School Survivors or attendees.
o What actions you are taking to break generational trauma caused by
Residential and Boarding Schools.
Applicants are expected to know about 49 Design and the history behind our founder establishing this scholarship (which can be found on our About Us page) and incorporate that into their essay.
o How you would utilize the scholarship to further your goals.
The scholarship remains open to applicants in both Canada and the USA who are
Residential School Survivors or their descendants, regardless of enrollment in a post-
secondary institution.
2. Complete a budget for $5,000 on how you will spend the money and send with your essay submission.
3. Wait to hear back if you're a finalist in late November 2025.
4. Ten finalists will be selected for each round of funding, and their budget will be reviewed after being selected.
5. We will confirm connections or attendance if needed. The applicant is NOT required to provide proof of residential school or day school attendance.
6. Applicants may be asked for proof of Indigenous status, tribal enrollment, or Métis enrollment if selected as a finalist.
7. DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS IS NOVEMBER 15th, 2025. NO EXCEPTIONS.
The scholarship is awarded in payments.
